This course is suitable for anyone working with or supporting children or young people who have special educational needs. No prior knowledge of supporting communication needs is required, merely a desire to engage more effectively with the children or people you support. It is equally suitable for anyone new to special needs, (including early Years or Adult Services), or for people with some prior experience( perhaps as a refresher)

The course will cover:- 

• What communication is all about.

• What does it feel like to have a communication difficulty.

• Facilitating effective communication.

• Introducing and supporting symbols.

• Introduction to Makaton signing.

• Learning a core signing vocabulary.

• Minimising communication breakdown.
